What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They're widely used to make sites work, work more efficiently, and to provide reporting information. "Similar technologies" covers things like localStorage, which some browsers use instead of cookies for the same kinds of purposes.
What this site currently uses
This is a pre-launch, coming-soon page. It's deliberately minimal: we don't run any advertising or analytics cookies at this time. Here's exactly what does run:

Loading fonts from Google's servers means your browser makes a request directly to Google, which can see and log your IP address as part of serving that request — the same as any request to any external server. Google's use of this data is governed by Google's own privacy policy. We don't control what Google does with that request, only that our page asks your browser to make it.
We don't set any cookies to track you across other websites, and we don't use any advertising cookies or pixels.
What we may add later
Once The 1230 launches as a full product, we expect to introduce basic, privacy-respecting analytics (to understand how many people visit and roughly what they do, not to build individual profiles) and possibly a small number of functional cookies tied to the app itself. If and when that happens, this page — and the consent banner on the site — will be updated accordingly, and any cookies that legally require your opt-in consent (under UK PECR/GDPR rules) will only be set after you've given it.
How to control cookies
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Every browser is a little different, but you'll usually find these options under "Privacy" or "Site settings". Blocking all cookies may affect how some parts of some websites work; blocking the small amount used on this page won't stop the site functioning, since none of it is essential to core functionality beyond remembering your cookie-banner choice.
